Louisiana Health Plan provides health insurance coverage for those individuals who cannot obtain health insurance coverage elsewhere due to pre-existing medical conditions. Please note that there are two plans available to the residents of Louisiana:

• High Risk Pool
• HIPAA Pool

IMPORTANT NOTICE CONCERNING FEDERAL HEALTH CARE LAW

Louisiana Health Plan is closing December 31, 2013 and it will be necessary for policyholders to obtain other health insurance coverage.

The Louisiana Health Plan was established to ensure the availability of health insurance to Louisiana citizens who could not otherwise obtain coverage due to health conditions.

Effective January 1, 2014 the Affordable Care Act will prohibit health insurance companies from denying applicants based on preexisting health conditions. The Louisiana Health Plan will cease operations and all policies will terminate on December 31, 2013.

As it becomes available, information will be provided to help educate policyholders and assist them in transitioning to another health insurer.

It will be necessary for existing policyholders to obtain other health insurance coverage effective January 1, 2014.
